Located in the northern slope of Victoria Peak, Hong Kong Zoological Botanical Gardens is a national park in Hong Kong with a highest point of 100 meters above sea level. Moreover, this public park in Hong Kong spreads over an area of 5.6 hectares and was initially founded in 1871 as a Botanical Garden. However, it was later renamed as the Hong Kong Zoological Botanical Gardens to reflect the immense contribution made to conserve the wild animals that form a part of the zoological exhibition. The construction to Hong Kong Zoological Botanical Gardens started in 1860 and it was made open to the public in 1864.

The garden of this public park is composite of a large number of fountains, sculptures, greenhouses, playground, zoo and a spectacular bird sanctuary. The Botanical and Zoological Park in Hong Kong is a home to a variety of trees, plants, shrubs and about 160 species of birds including the crested cockatoos that are not native but yet very attractive. Besides, the zoo of this Hong Kong Zoological Garden , serves as one of the pioneering centers for the captive breeding of endangered species.
The Zoological and Botanical Gardens of Hong Kong is meticulously divided into separate sections for plants, aviaries and animals. The first two are housed in the east close to the Garden Rd while the animals are inhabited to the west of the garden. Even the green houses are divided into five section namely- bromeliads and orchids, ferns, climbers, carnivorous plants and scented plants.
Frequent visits to the Hong Kong Zoological & Botanical Gardens are paid by parents on weekends when they come along with their children to tour this exquisite national park . As a matter of fact, the Zoological and Botanical garden at Hong Kong is considered to be one of the most popular places of tourist attraction in Hong Kong .
